I found “interact with others” seems to be most productive in the sense of growing. “Growing” in finding new writers to read and enjoy, as well as discovering new followers and subscribers.
Yes, interacting is the key. Substack is about building relationships. Everything good follows from that. In fact, except for the effort you have to put into writing, growth happens without you doing anything if you first focus on relationships.
You have articulated the strategy I have basically followed since I began writing on Substack two years ago. It is slow going, but works. I just topped 100 subscribers/followers with no special promotions. Going back to my days as a newspaper carrier, I learned if you have good content, you'll have readers.
I love this and I'm following the same strategy since I started Substack. I guess 59 subscribers in two months doesn't seem a lot but I started from 0 so it is more than enough to keep me optimistic. Anyways, congrats on your growth. You are doing great!!!
Awesome! To be honest I don’t think about my growth very much. I didn’t think anyone would want to read anything I wrote when I first started. I am grateful to my subscribers for their kindness. Do not put yourself on some sort of timetable. Each of us has our own story to live. It may take longer or shorter for some people. Just focus on your writing and relationship building. Things will fall in place at the right time.

Thank you for this! I’m so, so brand new to Substack. I don’t want to be a numbers person. These are great reminders. Go forth and write!!
